Reiki FAQs

What happens during a Reiki session?

My Reiki sessions last between one hour to 1.5 hours. I usually ask the client about the reason for their visit. This usually takes anywhere from a few mintues to 15 minutes depending on how much the client wants to share. The client then lies down on a massage table or sits on a chair fully clothed, after which I scan the client’s energy field with my hands or intuitive senses to determine where the client may need healing. Reiki is not a massage, so there is no manipulation of muscles. I usually give Reiki with their hands slightly above the my client’s body, although I may lightly touch their head or feet.

One of the good things about Reiki is that it is non-instrusive. Sometimes clients prefer not to discuss their issues for privacy reasons. That’s OK. Experienced Reiki practitioners can often detect where a client needs Reiki without the client having to talk about it.

While there are no hard and fast rules about the number of times a client may need a session, from my experience the client usually starts to see improvement of their issue around the third session. Other clients may just want to relax for the day, so maybe one session is sufficient. I’ve also had clients who’ve come in for multiple sessions for deeper healing or health maintenance. In such cases, I might recommend taking a Reiki class to learn self-treatments because it’s more economical over the long term.

In Canada and the US, prices are about the same as massage therapy from these countries.

Each person’s experience is unique. Some feel tingling sensations, heat, or see colours. Others release emotions. Still others may drift off. It’s best to keep an open mind to what you may experience. But generally, after a reiki session, clients feel more relaxed, calmer, lighter, happier, or more alert.

Other students discover that Reiki deepens their spiritual path and if they are interested in this, I recommend studying Reiki all the way to Reiki Master and Karuna Reiki® Master levels.

I like my classes fun, informative, down-to-earth, and applicable to daily life situations. I also believe in empowering students and using Reiki as a tool for personal development. I keep my classes small so I can personalize my teaching to my students.

Of course. Reiki enhances other healing methods. Some students combine Reiki with art therapy, neo-shamanic practices, massage therapy, crystal healing, or sound healing. Other students are nurses and doctors and use Reiki to complement their services.

There are no special requirements to be able to do Reiki well. In a Reiki class, you will get an attunement so you can channel Reiki energy for healing, and you will have this ability forever.
